CONTEST RULES FOR MODELZONA2022

 1. THE CRAIG HEWITT CHAPTER OF IPMS/USA IS HOSTING THIS CONTEST. THIS IS AN OPEN CONTEST, WITH NO CLUB AFFILIATION OR MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED FOR ENTRY. A SEPARATE ENTRY FORM MUST BE COMPLETED FOR EACH MODEL ENTERED. EACH MODEL ENTERED MUST BE THE SOLE WORK OF THE INDIVIDUAL WHOSE NAME IS ON THE ENTRY FORM. ANY MODEL FOUND TO BE THE WORK OF SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE ENTRANT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

2. MODELS WILL BE ENTERED AT THE REGISTRATION TABLE FROM 10:00AM UNTIL 1:00PM ON THE DAY OF THE CONTEST. LATE ENTRIES MAY BE ACCEPTED, AT THE DISCRETION OF THE HEAD JUDGE, UNTIL JUDGING FOR A CATEGORY HAS BEGUN. NO ENTRANT WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE MODEL AREA BEFORE THE REGISTRATION OF THE ENTRANT'S MODEL(S). NO MODEL MAY BE REMOVED FROM THE DISPLAY AREA UNTIL AFTER ALL AWARDS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED, UNLESS APPROVED BY THE CONTEST CHAIRMAN. THIS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED.

3. JUNIOR ENTRANTS ARE DEFINED AS ENTRANTS 17 YEARS OF AGE AND YOUNGER. AT THEIR OWN DISCRETION, JUNIORS WILL BE PERMITTED TO COMPETE IN SENIOR CATEGORIES. ENTRANTS MAY NOT COMPETE IN BOTH JUNIOR AND SENIOR CATEGORIES.

4. ANY MODEL THAT HAS WON ANY AWARD IN A PREVIOUS CRAIG HEWITT OPEN CONTEST WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR AN AWARD. ANY MODEL THAT HAS WON ANY AWARD IN THE CURRENT YEAR'S IPMS/USA NATIONAL OR REGIONAL CONTEST IS ELIGIBLE FOR AN AWARD (PRIOR YEAR'S WINNERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE). BECAUSE MODELZONA IS A FALL EVENT, WE ALLOW SUCH ENTRIES TO ACCOMMODATE PROJECTS COMPLETED JUST PRIOR TO THE NATIONAL CONVENTION.

5. THE ENTRANT WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CORRECT CATEGORY AND CLASS ASSIGNMENT OF THEIR MODELS. THE HEAD JUDGE WILL HAVE THE FINAL DECISION RELATING TO THE PLACEMENT OF A MODEL WITHIN THE VARIOUS CLASSES AND/OR CATEGORIES.

6. THE HEAD JUDGE AND JUDGING COMMITTEE WILL DECIDE ON THE EXPANSION AND/OR COMBINING OF CATEGORIES.

7. EACH MODEL ENTRY MAY HAVE SUPPORTING WRITTEN OR PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTATION THAT THE ENTRANT WISHES TO INCLUDE FOR REVIEW OR CLARIFICATION BY THE JUDGES. THE JUDGES MAY REQUIRE AUTHENTICATION OF SPECIFIC MODELS.

8. THE HEAD JUDGE WILL EXCLUDE/REMOVE FROM COMPETITION ANY ENTRY CONSIDERED BY CONTEST OFFICIALS TO BE INAPPROPRIATE OR OFFENSIVE TO GENERALLY ACKNOWLEDGED STANDARDS OF TASTE AND ACCEPTABILITY. THE HEAD JUDGE HAS FINAL AUTHORITY TO RESOLVE CONCERNS. IPMS NATIONAL CONTEST RULES WILL BE USED AS GUIDELINES IN THIS AREA. ALL HEAD JUDGE'S DECISIONS ARE FINAL.

9. MODELERS MAY WIN MORE THAN ONE PLACE IN A CATEGORY, INCLUDING OUT OF THE BOX.

10. If A model with groundwork and figures is entered in the regular categories then only the Model of the main subject will be judged (not moved). This works to the advantage of the entrant in that they may have wanted to recreate a small scene for themselves but they know that their figure painting skills may not be up to par and that a story line may not be in line with what is required in the Diorama category.

11. SINGLE FIGURES MAY BE DISPLAYED ON SMALL LANDSCAPED BASES AND REMAIN IN THE APPROPRIATE FIGURE CLASS. HOWEVER, TWO OR MORE FIGURES ON A LANDSCAPED BASE OF ANY SIZE SHALL BE CONSIDERED A DIORAMA OR VIGNETTE, AND SHALL BE PLACED IN THE APPROPRIATE CLASS.

12. A CONVERSION MODEL MUST REPRESENT A VERSION DIFFERENT FROM THAT PROVIDED BY THE BASIC KIT. THE CONVERSION MUST CONTAIN SIGNIFICANT STRUCTURAL MODIFICATIONS TO THE BASIC KIT INVOLVING EXTENSIVE CHANGES IN CONTOUR OR CONFIGURATION. IN ADDITION TO THE NORMAL JUDGING CRITERIA COMMON TO THE ENTIRE CONTEST, JUDGES OF THE CONVERSION CATEGORY WILL GIVE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION TO THE COMPLEXITY OF THE CONVERSION. A CONVERSION ACCOMPLISHED WITH PRIMARILY COMMERCIAL AFTERMARKET PARTS WILL BE AT A DISADVANTAGE, THEREFORE, AGAINST A CONVERSION ACCOMPLISHED PRIMARILY BY THE BUILDER'S CRAFTSMANSHIP - ASSUMING BOTH ARE FINISHED TO SIMILAR STANDARDS. SIMPLE CONVERSIONS MAY BE ENTERED IN REGULAR CATEGORIES. MORE EXTENSIVE CONVERSIONS, HOWEVER, MUST BE ENTERED IN THE APPROPRIATE CONVERSION CATEGORY. THE BUILDER MUST DETAIL THE CONVERSION CHANGES MADE TO THE BASE KIT ON THE ENTRY SHEET OR ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTATION. JUDGES HAVE THE ULTIMATE AUTHORITY TO DETERMINE A MODEL'S CATEGORY PLACEMENT, AND SUCH DECISIONS BY JUDGES WILL BE FINAL.

13. A SCRATCHBUILT MODEL MAY INCORPORATE PARTS FROM OTHER KITS, BUT THESE SHOULD BE GENERALLY UNRELATED TO THEIR ORIGINAL IDENTITY, EXCEPT FOR MINOR PARTS SUCH AS WHEELS, GUNS, ETC. MODELS DETERMINED TO BE SCRATCHBUILT MUST BE ENTERED IN THE PROPER SCRATCHBUILT CATEGORY.

Modifications typically include changes in the shape of the body and/or other visual aspects of the vehicle , such as channeling , sectioning , chopping or reconfiguring.
